Carbo and the Thief: and Other Tales of Ancient Rome

The Story

Six tales from Ancient Rome. Carbo journeys back to Rome after his retirement from the legions, unaware of the dangers that await him there (described in Watchmen of Rome). On the way he has to solve a mysterious theft of a bulla, and meets and old friend in a town getting ready for a gladiatorial combat. In other stories we learn more about characters from Watchmen of Rome, Elissa and Vespillo. The Battlefield tells the story of a young boy’s first encounter with war, and the Wall tells of a new recruit’s posting to Hadrian’s Wall.
